The passport is a document required to leave Italy for non-EU countries.
On 25th November 2009 regulations regarding minors changed: the parent may no longer register his/her minor children on his/her passport.
The minor therefore needs an individual passport.
Valid passports featuring the data of the minor child (that were requested before 25th November 2009) may be used until their expiry date.
For added security, the validity period varies according to age groups:
- from 0 to 3 years: valid for three years
- from 3 to 18 years: valid for five years
For over 18 years, the validity is ten years.
WHERE TO APPLY
The passport is issued by the police station and, abroad, by diplomatic missions and consular posts.
You can book online the date and time to submit your application and to have your fingerprints taken, so that you can skip long queues at the Police Station.
